Baby Excitement at Izmir Wildlife Park

Zebras, lemurs, gazelles, wild and angora goats gave birth to 70 babies in the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Wildlife Park. The hatching of a yellow-beaked stork that came to the park this year also created excitement.

With the arrival of spring in the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Wildlife Park, the excitement of new births is experienced. Among the animals living in the park, two baby zebras, two ring-tailed lemurs, 44 gazelles, 19 wild goats and 3 angora goats, totaling 70 babies, have joined the park. The yellow-billed stork, which has just arrived, has also started to hatch.

Births increased with spring months

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Wildlife Park Branch Manager Serkan Eğrilmez, who stated that births started in the Wildlife Park with the spring months, said, “First, two zebras came to life. Two of our 16 adult ring-tailed lemurs became mothers. Animals live happily and peacefully in our park. A yellow-billed stork, one of the symbolic animals of Africa that came to the park this year, is also on its way to becoming a mother in the Aviary (waterfowl) shelter. It incubated here. The male stork carries branches to build the nest. Yellow-billed stork babies will hatch in late May and early June. Thus, a yellow-billed stork will be born for the first time in the Wildlife Park. Although it has just arrived in our park, the fact that the stork is incubating shows that it trusts its environment. With this sense of trust, the desire to bring babies into the world instinctively emerges.”

“This is the home of our wild animals”

Emphasizing that the number of visitors increases in the summer months, Eğrilmez said: “We try to keep the area as clean as possible. This is the home of our wild animals. We come and go, but they live here. We ask our visitors to take care to keep the Natural Life Park clean, not to feed the animals, and not to leave food leftovers in the environment.”
