Within the scope of the artificial reef project, implemented in cooperation with the Edirne Governorship and the Edirne Tourism Infrastructure Association (ESTAB), an M62 T model tank will be released into the waters of the Gulf of Saros near the İbrice Port. This project aims to enrich the marine ecosystem in the region and significantly revitalize diving tourism.
The M62 T model tank, which was brought from Çorlu and completed all necessary legal procedures and received official permits, was delivered to ESTAB authorities. According to the plans, the tank will be located off the coast of İbrice Port for approximately 12-13 meters deep will be sunk. This depth will make the tank the shallowest wreck ever sunk in Türkiye. In this way, not only experienced professional divers but also citizens snorkeling from the surface will be able to easily observe this interesting wreck. The tank is expected to be launched this month.
Keşan Mayor Özcan: “It Will Be a Unique Experience for Saros”
ESTAB President and Keşan Mayor Op.Dr. Mehmet Özcan, in his statement about the project, said, “This project will offer a unique experience not only for diving enthusiasts but also for every visitor to Saros. It will also create a new home for marine life. The tank wreck will both strengthen tourism in our region and contribute to the marine ecosystem. We act with an understanding of tourism in harmony with nature. This project will offer a unique experience not only for diving enthusiasts but also for every guest visiting the Gulf of Saros. The tank to be sunk will both be a visual attraction and create a new home for marine life. A tank wreck will now be added to projects such as ships, planes and underwater history museums that were previously sunk in our region. Thus, the underwater cultural heritage of Saros is becoming richer every day. I would like to thank the Edirne Governorship and all institutions that contributed to the realization of this project.” President Özcan stated that he believes the project will increase the tourism potential of the Gulf of Saros and bring a new breath to the region.
Federation Representative Yumurtacı: “Diving Tourism Will Be Revived, New Living Area Will Be Created”
Ahmet Yumurtacı, the Representative of the Turkish Underwater Sports Federation and the President of the Diving Center Association, drew attention to the importance of the project and said, “About a year ago, we started a project with ESTAB officials to both enrich our seas ecologically and contribute to diving tourism. The aim of this project was to submerge a tank into the sea to create an artificial reef. With the support of our Governor and ESTAB, we have come to the point of implementing this project. This tank will be submerged to a depth of approximately 12-13 meters and will be the shallowest submerged wreck in Türkiye to date. Thanks to this feature, not only professional divers but also amateur diving enthusiasts and even many citizens who want to explore the underwater will be able to see this wreck easily. Therefore, it will revitalize diving tourism in our region, contribute to the local economy and also create a new habitat for underwater creatures. I would like to thank everyone who contributed.” Yumurtacı emphasized that the project will not only create a new habitat for underwater creatures but will also make the Gulf of Saros even more attractive for diving enthusiasts.
With this project, the Gulf of Saros is preparing to attract both nature lovers and diving enthusiasts looking for adventure by adding a new one to its underwater riches. The tank wreck will enrich the underwater cultural heritage of the region and also make positive contributions to the marine ecosystem.
