Governor Baydaş: “İyidere Logistics Center Will Host the Heaviest Tonnage Ships”

Providing information about the work carried out, Rize Governor İhsan Selim Baydaş announced that İyidere Logistics Center will have the capacity to accommodate even the heaviest tonnage ships when completed. Governor Baydaş said, “The 4th largest logistics port of Türkiye is being built in İyidere. After Mersin, Çandarlı and Filyos ports, the 4th largest logistics port continues without any problems on the İyidere coast from the end of our city. This logistics port will also be a port where the heaviest tonnage ships can dock due to its depth. When it is completed, together with the ground scanning that will take place, it will turn us, our city and our region into a center where sea transportation, land transportation, railway transportation and air transportation are integrated. Because we have an airport in our city, we have highway connections. Hopefully, when the railways that our Minister of Transportation mentioned and the feasibility studies have started are integrated, the province will become a transportation center.”

“İyidere Will Be the Gateway of the China-London Main Railway to the Black Sea”

Emphasizing that İyidere Logistics Center will become a very valuable point for the Turkish economy when it becomes operational, Governor Baydaş said, “Our country is both a transit center between Asia and Europe due to its position and is in a position to provide connection to the Middle East and the Gulf region, which our President calls the development path, through Turkey. This is the door where the development path will open to the Black Sea. It is the door where the China-London main railway will open to the Black Sea. It is a sea gate where especially the Middle Eastern countries in our region will connect with Russia and Europe from the Black Sea. Therefore, both the railway work to be done and especially the Erzurum-Rize railway, which we have mentioned, should be included in this. This is a border whose feasibility and infrastructure have been completed. At the same time, with the completion of the highway connection, namely the tunnels behind us connecting us to Erzurum with the Ovit tunnel and the İkizdere road on this side, our logistics port and the logistics center planned in the background will be the most valuable in terms of economy not only for our city, but also for our region and Türkiye. “It will be one of the points,” he said.

“Ovit Tunnel’s Connection Roads Will Be Completed Simultaneously”

Governor Baydaş stated that the Ovit Tunnel and connection roads are planned to be completed simultaneously with the logistics center, and said, “Logistics ports are places that will activate the transportation section and provide incoming and outgoing goods with transportation. In this process, while our logistics port is being completed, the Ovit tunnel and connection roads are also planned to be completed simultaneously. With the completion of the Kırık and Dallıkavak tunnels, which are at the end of Erzurum but also of great interest to us, and the tunnels and viaducts in the direction of İkizdere, the logistics port will be reduced to a very short distance from the center of Erzurum. Therefore, it will provide a very special relationship and port position on the North-South border. It will mean that our country, and all of Anatolia, will be opened to the Black Sea geography with a port, not just as a port for our problem.” Thanks to this integration, İyidere Logistics Center will become an important door opening to the Black Sea not only for Rize and its surroundings, but for all of Anatolia.
