Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu paid an important visit to the Syrian Arab Republic to develop relations between Turkey and Syria and to evaluate the potential for cooperation in the field of transport. Minister Uraloğlu was welcomed by Syrian Minister of Transport Yarub Bedir at Damascus Airport.
Emphasis on Cooperation in Transportation
Minister Uraloğlu, in a joint press statement with Syrian Minister of Transportation Yarub Bedir, emphasized that transportation plays a critical role in relations between countries, saying, “Nothing happens without transportation. If we cannot reach somewhere, if we cannot reach each other, we cannot do anything. During this 2-day visit, we will discuss what more we can do in the field of transportation and how we can develop our relations.”
Border Length and Regional Cooperation
Drawing attention to the long border between the two countries, Minister Uraloğlu stated that this situation increased the potential for cooperation in the field of transportation and said, “We are the two countries with the longest border. In that sense, we need to reach each other and also reach other countries through each other. We will discuss for 2 days what we can do better in the fields of aviation, road transportation, seaway, railway and communication.”
“Our Relations Will Contribute to Regional Peace”
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized the experience of Syrian Minister of Transport Yarub Bedir and the importance he attaches to Turkey-Syria relations, saying, “His presence in this ministry is a chance for both countries. The good relations we will establish between our countries will contribute to both the development of both countries and peace in our region.”
Expressing his satisfaction with Syrian Transport Minister Yarub Bedir's "welcome to your second country" words, Minister Uraloğlu invited his counterpart to Türkiye.
A Busy Program
On the first day of his Syria contacts on April 22-23, Minister Uraloğlu will hold bilateral meetings with Syrian Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Abdusselam Heikel, Minister of Transport Yarub Bedir and President of the General Administration of Land and Sea Ports Kuteybe Ahmed Bedewi. He will also visit the historical Hejaz Railway Station.
On the second day of his visit to Damascus, Minister Uraloğlu will also meet with Minister of Public Works and Resettlement Mustafa Abdulrezzak, and will discuss possible cooperation opportunities in the fields of transportation and communication and the development of relations during his two-day program. This visit is considered an important step in normalizing relations between Türkiye and Syria and strengthening regional cooperation.
