Tram Coming to the Historical Heart of Şanlıurfa

An important step was taken within the scope of the Divanyolu pedestrianization project to be implemented by Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality. Trams purchased specifically for the project set off to reach the city. The tram was carried on a truck and moved towards Şanlıurfa.

Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar had previously stated in his statement that pedestrianization efforts were ongoing in the area between Sarayönü and Balıklıgöl, which has historical and touristic significance. Mayor Gülpınar had announced that this route would be closed to vehicle traffic and that two-wheeled trams would operate in this section as of early September.

Changes in Tram Routes and Trambuses

According to the plan, the trams that will operate on Divanyolu will carry passengers between the Sarayönü-Balıklıgöl tunnel. With this new arrangement, the routes of the trams operating on the current 63 line will also be changed. While the trams will use the street in front of Bediüzzaman on the way out, they will operate on Demokrasi Street on the way back.

Infrastructure Work Continues Rapidly

It is planned to complete the infrastructure and superstructure works for the pedestrianization of Divanyolu and the opening of the tram line within the next four months. With the completion of these works, the historical center of Şanlıurfa will be cleared of vehicle traffic and become more enjoyable and accessible for pedestrians. With the opening of the trams, transportation to the region will also gain a modern and environmentally friendly alternative.
