Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş made important statements about the metro projects that the people of the capital are following closely due to the increasing traffic density. Mayor Yavaş, who gave the good news about the Mamak Metro project in particular, announced that the foundation of the line will be laid next May.
Number of Vehicles in Ankara is Increasing Rapidly
ABB President Mansur Yavaş, in his speech at the Local Reform Meetings program held yesterday, stated that there has been an increase of approximately 500 thousand vehicles in Ankara in the last two years. Yavaş, who drew attention to the fact that this rapid increase has significantly increased the traffic density in the city, emphasized that metro projects are of vital importance for the solution of this problem. Yavaş, with his words, “The number of vehicles coming in 2 years has approached 500 thousand. In other words, entering traffic. If you build an overpass instead of an underpass, these roads will not be enough,” revealed the seriousness of the situation.
Transverse Roads and Metro Will Be the Solution
Stating that they are working to produce permanent solutions to the traffic problem, President Yavaş stated that road widening works alone will not be enough. Yavaş said, “The more roads you open, the more traffic gets congested. But some people do not understand this. It will temporarily ease the traffic for a while. Moreover, there is no other road to Kızılay. In other words, there is no other road that can open to the city center. However, we will solve this by building transverse roads.” Yavaş, who stated that they have held meetings with the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Interior within this scope, gave the good news that a new road project starting from in front of Land Aviation and connecting to Gölbaşı via Eskişehir Road and İncek will be implemented. He also said that the traffic flow will be eased with side roads coming from the airport and Pursaklar direction and reaching İvedik without entering the city.
Countdown Has Started for Mamak Metro
Mayor Yavaş, who gave a concrete date for the Mamak Metro project that Ankara residents are eagerly waiting for, said, “We are laying the foundation of the Mamak Metro next May,” and announced that the project will start soon. The Mamak Metro, which will consist of a total of 8 stops, will pass through the Abidinpaşa, Aşık Veysel, Tuzluçayır, General Zeki Doğan, Fahri Korutürk, Cengizhan and Akşemsettin stops and reach the last stop, Natayolu. With the opening of this new metro line, it is expected that transportation between Mamak and the city center will be significantly relieved.
