New Generation Hybrid System from Hyundai

Hyundai Motor Group, one of the long-standing players in the automotive industry, has introduced its new generation hybrid powertrain system to the automotive world by making a revolutionary innovation in hybrid technologies. This groundbreaking system sets a brand new standard in the balance of power and efficiency, aiming to further solidify Hyundai’s leading position in the hybrid segment and offer its customers the technologies of the future today. The dual integrated motor transmission at the heart of the new generation hybrid system can work in perfect harmony with different types of internal combustion engines. This intelligent structure offers the flexibility to maximize performance, fuel efficiency and driving comfort according to the needs of different vehicle classes.

“We have successfully developed this innovative hybrid system by cleverly integrating our deep knowledge of engine, transmission and hybrid system development over the years with the pioneering electrification technologies used in our electric vehicles. In this critical period when the automotive industry is rapidly moving towards electric vehicles, we will continue to use the full potential offered by electrification in the most efficient way and resolutely continue our mission of providing high-performance and environmentally friendly vehicles,” said Dong Hee Han, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group Electrification Test Center.

A New Era of Performance, Efficiency and Integration

Hyundai’s meticulously developed new generation transmission houses two different electric motors. The P1 motor in this clever configuration is activated from the moment the vehicle first moves, providing a smooth and fast start, allowing the battery to be charged efficiently and undertaking various support tasks during driving. The P2 motor, on the other hand, provides dynamic performance by generating the actual driving power, while making a significant contribution to fuel efficiency by recovering energy during braking (regenerative braking). This dual-motor synergy not only increases power and performance, but also offers a quiet, smooth and extremely enjoyable driving experience. The new hybrid system also incorporates Hyundai’s deep experience in comprehensive motor and battery management gained with its groundbreaking E-GMP (Global Modular Platform for Electric). In addition, innovative comfort features such as Stay Mode (operation of comfort systems from the battery while the vehicle is stationary), V2L (Vehicle-to-Device Energy Transfer) and Smart Regenerative Braking, which are offered in electric vehicles and have been appreciated by users, are also integrated into these new hybrid models.

Significant Reduction in Fuel Consumption with Advanced Engine Design

Hyundai’s new generation hybrid system was first introduced in a high-performance 2.5-liter turbo gasoline hybrid engine. Innovative designs that minimize energy losses were applied in this advanced engine. A significant reduction in fuel consumption was achieved by optimizing the in-cylinder flow and using high-efficiency cycles. Hyundai is preparing to offer this new generation hybrid system with a high-efficiency 1.6-liter turbo hybrid engine in order to reach a wider audience. This engine provides a more than 4 percent increase in efficiency compared to previous generation hybrid engines, while also offering faster and more dynamic acceleration performance.

Smart and Safe Driving Experience with New Technologies

A number of innovative technologies introduced by Hyundai with its new hybrid system aim to make the driving experience more intelligent, safe and comfortable. These technologies include Electric All-Wheel Drive (e-AWD), Electrification-Based Ride Control (e-VMC 2.0), e-Handling 2.0 (electronic-assisted handling), e-EHA 2.0 (electronic-assisted power steering), e-Ride 2.0 (electronically controlled suspension), Stay Mode (operation of the comfort systems from the battery when the vehicle is stationary) and Smart Regenerative Braking. The Electric All-Wheel Drive system provides superior traction and stability under different road conditions, while Electrification-Based Ride Control increases performance and efficiency by optimizing the engine and braking systems according to driving modes. While e-Handling 2.0 and e-EHA 2.0 offer a more precise and enjoyable driving experience, e-Ride 2.0 significantly increases journey comfort. The Stay Mode feature allows comfort features such as air conditioning and sound systems to operate via the high-voltage battery while the vehicle is stationary, preventing unnecessary operation of the internal combustion engine and contributing to fuel economy. V2L (Vehicle-to-Device Energy Transfer) technology provides users with a mobile energy source by transferring up to 3.6 kW of vehicle battery energy to external devices. The Smart Regenerative Braking system analyzes driving conditions and traffic flow, ensuring the most efficient recovery of braking energy.

Solutions for Every Need with an Expanding Range of Hybrid Models

Hyundai’s new generation hybrid system has a flexible structure that can be used in a wide range of products from compact models to luxury class. This system, which can work with engines with different power levels from 100 PS to 300+ PS, will first meet users in Hyundai’s flagship New PALISADE Hybrid model. Hyundai Motor Group aims to further strengthen its claim in the hybrid vehicle segment by integrating this innovative technology into various models of other brands (Kia and Genesis) within its structure in the future. This strategic move clearly demonstrates Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to sustainable mobility and its vision to shape the automotive technologies of the future.
