A devastating landslide that occurred yesterday evening in the Canik district of Samsun caused a major disaster in the car wash section of a gas station. As a result of the rock pieces falling from the mountain falling on the car wash section, a family of four who were washing their car were trapped under the debris.
Tragic Losses Were Suffered in the Disaster
Following the incident, numerous search and rescue, health, fire and police teams were dispatched to the area. It was learned that the father and 4 children of the family of 2 in the vehicle that remained under the debris lost their lives. Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı made a statement at the scene, saying, “While our family was washing their vehicle at the gas station, a collapse occurred. There are 4 people in our family. We sent our mother to the hospital, she has broken legs. None of our citizens are under the collapse. According to the information we received from the hospital, the mother was taken into surgery. Unfortunately, we lost our father and 2 children. May Allah have mercy on them. May Allah grant them a speedy recovery. Our families are from Samsun.”
Identities of Those Who Lost Their Lives Have Been Determined
It was determined that those who lost their lives in the disaster were Adem Kaya (35), his wife Çiğdem Kaya (29) and their daughters Açelya Mina Kaya (7) and Ayla Kaya (5). It was learned that the family had moved from the Bağcılar district of Istanbul to the İlkadım district of Samsun a while ago. While the investigation into the incident continues, Çiğdem Kaya, who was rescued with injuries, is still receiving treatment in hospital.
