The Czech Republic’s national railway company, České dráhy (ČD), is ushering in a new era in rail transport. The company’s fleet of brand new nine-coach ComfortJet locomotive-driven trains has successfully completed their trial runs and officially began operating on the Prague – Ostrava – Bohumín route on April 15. Each with an impressive capacity of 555 passengers, these modern trains aim to offer passengers a high level of comfort and a contemporary travel experience.
ComfortJet Routes Expand, Service Offered in Airplane Comfort
On ComfortJet trains currently operating between Prague and Ostrava and Bohumín, passengers in the test phase can enjoy a full-service restaurant car offering a selection similar to the popular Railjet menu. The food and beverage service on board is provided by the experienced company JLV, which ensures that quality standards are maintained at a consistently high level.
The next stop for ComfortJet trains will be the IC 512/515 route between Ostrava and the famous spa town of Františkovy Lázně. Following these domestic services, ComfortJet trains are also planned to be put into service on international routes to neighbouring countries such as Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. This expansion will strengthen the Czech Republic’s connection with the European rail network and provide a comfortable alternative for international passengers.
Modern Fleet Produced in Cooperation with Siemens and Škoda
These innovative rolling stocks are being supplied by a consortium of leading European railway technology companies Siemens Mobility and Škoda Group. Within the framework of the comprehensive contract with ČD, the consortium will deliver 20 wagons for a total of 180 ComfortJet trains. This major investment stands out as a concrete demonstration of the Czech railways’ vision for modernization.
Superior Technical Features of ComfortJet
Each ComfortJet train is 237 metres long and offers passengers modern features designed for a comfortable journey. The trains have 99 first-class seats, while the restaurant car can accommodate 18 passengers. Pulled by powerful Siemens Vectron electric locomotives, these trains can reach an impressive speed of 230 km/h, providing passengers with a fast, trouble-free and reliable journey.
The introduction of ComfortJet represents a completely new stage in the modernization of Czech rail transport. These modern trains combine a high level of comfort, impressive speed and a service tailored to the needs of European passengers. With the introduction of ComfortJet, ČD is further strengthening its market position through innovation and expanding international connections. In the coming months, new routes are expected to be added to this modern fleet and more passengers will be able to experience this comfortable travel experience.
