A major step has been taken towards the production of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, which will revolutionise India’s long-distance railway services. The Titagarh Rail Systems (TRSL) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) joint venture has inaugurated a dedicated production line at its Uttarpara facility for the production of these new generation trains.
This strategic move comes as a result of the massive $2,88 billion contract awarded by Indian Railways to the TRSL-BHEL consortium, which covers the design, manufacturing and maintenance of 80 train sets for a period of 35 years.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior executives like TRSL Vice Chairman Umesh Chowdhary and BHEL Director Bani Varma. This important event is considered as a major step towards improving the standards of passenger trains in India.
Comfort and Technology Come Together with Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Production
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train models are equipped with smart onboard systems, contemporary designs, indigenously produced technology and advanced safety features to provide passengers with a comfortable and modern travel experience. These trains promise to maximize passenger comfort on long-distance semi-high-speed journeys.
Production operations at the Uttarpara facility have already begun and the first prototype is expected to be completed next year. Additionally, advanced Industry 4.0 compatible robotics technologies used at the facility significantly increase production efficiency.
Production Capacity is Being Increased to Meet Increasing Demand
The Uttarpara facility, which currently has an annual production capacity of 300 buses, aims to increase this capacity to 850 buses. This significant capacity increase will ensure a stable supply of Vande Bharat trains and other modern rolling stock across India.
Another important feature of the facility is that it is the only production center that can produce both stainless steel and aluminum-bodied buses under the same roof. This provides flexibility and efficiency advantages in operational processes.
With these strategic investments in innovation and manufacturing, the TRSL and BHEL partnership aims to reshape the future of rail transport in India and strengthen the country’s national infrastructure. With the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, the quality of long-distance travel in India is expected to see a significant improvement.
