Muğla Metropolitan Municipality has started the new phase of the 'I am the Master of My Life' project with the 'I am the Master of My Disabilities' trainings. The project, which has attracted great interest from citizens, will this time provide trainings that will make individuals with special needs masters.
Acting with an inclusive service approach, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality is adding a new one to its activities in this field. Within the scope of the project called 'I am the Master of My Disabilities', individuals with special needs will gain skills that will make their daily lives easier with the training they will receive in the fields of carpentry, plumbing and electricity. The trainings were planned to last 5 weeks in 5 different branches.
Ümit Çalışkan: “We Aim to Gain Self-Confidence”
Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Support Services Department Carpentry Workshop Manager Ümit Çalışkan said, “We have started carpentry training within the scope of the I am the Master of My Disabilities Project. The training includes carpentry, electrical, plumbing and painting workshops. In this training, we aim to help individuals with special needs overcome even small difficulties in their own lives and gain self-confidence. In our carpentry training, we introduced the materials and had them work with small hand tools. We enable them to overcome the difficulties in their lives more easily. 11 of our students came to carpentry training. They will remove their disabilities by going through the training one by one.”
Güzin Şahin: “They Experienced the Excitement of Being Able to Create a Product Together with Their Friends”
Güzin Şahin, a teacher at the Social Services Branch Directorate of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, said, “Our I am the Master of My Disabilities Project was planned to last 5 weeks in 5 different branches. Individuals with special needs over the age of 20 will benefit from our workshops. Thanks to these workshops, they will achieve outputs such as motor skills, sensory development, focus, patience, cooperation, creative thinking skills, self-confidence and success. First, they learned various information in the carpentry workshop. They are very happy to be here. They experienced the excitement of being able to create a product with their friends here.”

We are taking them right into the center of life. We will remove the obstacles together with this project. This project is not only a process of acquiring a profession or skill; it will also be a process of gaining self-confidence. With these trainings provided in many different branches, individuals with special needs both develop their motor skills and gain the equipment that will make their own lives easier.
