Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay is taking important steps with the aim of an environmental transformation in the city's transportation. In this context, Mayor Tugay gave the good news that the trolleybuses that used to serve on the streets of Izmir will meet with the people of Izmir again, and emphasized that these electric vehicles will play an important role in reducing carbon emissions.
The First Trolleybus Line from Zübeyde Hanım to Bostanlı
Mayor Cemil Tugay also announced the routes of the eagerly awaited trolleybus lines. He stated that the first line will start from Zübeyde Hanım Neighborhood and extend to Yeni Girne, then to Bostanlı Pier via Girne. This route will create an important alternative in public transportation by connecting the city's important life and transportation axes.
The Second Line Will Extend From Narlıdere to Maybe Seferihisar
President Tugay, who announced that a second trolleybus line is also planned, stated that this line could start from Narlıdere District Governorship and extend to Güzelbahçe and perhaps to Seferihisar in the later stages. This line will expand environmentally friendly transportation opportunities in the southern axis of İzmir and offer a comfortable alternative to the residents of the region.
Ornekkoy Tram Converted to Trolleybus
President Tugay announced that the 'Örnekköy Tram' project, which was started in the previous term, was also converted to trolleybuses. Explaining the reason for this decision, Tugay stated that trolleybuses will serve the same function, but there will be no need to damage the road and the cost of laying rails will be eliminated. Expressing that he thinks the new generation trolleybuses are efficient and enjoyable vehicles, Tugay expressed his belief that the people of İzmir will love this new transportation vehicle.
Loans Awaiting Approval and Cancelled Projects
President Cemil Tugay added that there are many loans awaiting approval at the ministry. Some of these loans are for infrastructure projects and include the Dikili, Çeşme and Şakran sewage and treatment projects. Tugay stated that a loan is also awaited for the capacity increase of the southwest treatment facility, and that there are also agreements awaiting approval for transportation projects. He stated that an agreement for which a tender has even been made for the purchase of a tram is awaiting approval, and that an agreement for the purchase of a trolleybus is also in the approval process. He also sadly stated that the loan agreement for the junction and bridge connection in Ege Mahallesi was included in the Presidency investment project but was cancelled at the last moment. President Tugay emphasized that important solutions will be produced for the transportation and infrastructure problems of İzmir with the implementation of these projects awaiting approval.
