The International Cartoon Competition organized by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality for the fifth time this year has concluded. The competition, which was held with the theme of “Water and Environment”, attracted great interest from amateur and professional cartoonists. A total of 45 works from 968 different countries competed to draw attention to the importance of water resources and environmental problems.

The theme of the competition, "Water and Environment", focused on climate change, water scarcity and other environmental problems, which are among the most important issues of our day. The competition, which aims to create social awareness by using the impressive power of cartoon art, drew attention to environmental issues with the creative drawings of artists of all ages.
World Famous Cartoonists in the Jury Seat
The international competition attracted works from many countries around the world, as well as Türkiye. The selection committee included respected names from the cartoon world. Master cartoonists such as Gürbüz Doğan Ekşioğlu, Şevket Yalaz, Ali Şur, Savaş Ünlü, Abdülkadir Uslu, Altan Özeskici, Özgür Başkurt, Mehmet Selçuk and Arif Duru determined the works that were awarded after a meticulous evaluation process.
Award-Winning Works Will Be Exhibited and Published in a Digital Album
The striking cartoons deemed worthy of awards as a result of the evaluations will meet with art lovers in an exhibition to be organized by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality. In addition, these successful works will be published in digital media and will reach a wider audience. The award ceremony of the competition will be held on May 2, 2025 at Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Turan Bahadır Exhibition Hall.
Here are the winning names
The winners of the competition were also announced. Luc Vernimmen from Belgium won the first prize in the over 18 category, while Musa Gümüş from Türkiye came in second and Osman Çolakoğlu came in third. Honorable mentions in the same category were given to Fakhredin Dostmohamad from Iran, Cemalettin Güzeloğlu and Engin Selçuk from Türkiye. The special award prepared in the name of Master Cartoonist Latif Demirci went to Halit Kurtulmuş Aytoslu. In the under 18 category, M. Boran Şavluk and Zeynep Rüya Çetin were deemed worthy of awards with their successful works. This meaningful competition organized by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality managed to create significant awareness by drawing attention to environmental problems with the universal language of art.
