Ordu Prepares to Host Dragon Boat Races

The Metropolitan Municipality Water Sports Center in Gülyalı district, which was brought to life with the vision of Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler, has been hosting important water sports organizations at national and international levels since the day it was opened and continues to make Ordu’s name heard in the sports community. Hosting countless competitions in branches such as canoeing and sailing, this modern facility is now preparing to open its doors to the exciting Dragon Boat Races for the second time. Applications have officially started ahead of these colorful and competitive races to be held on May 11.

Dragon Boat Excitement Will Be Experienced Again in Ordu

The Metropolitan Municipality Water Sports Center, which has transformed Ordu into a national and international water sports center, continues its preparations for a new sports festival. The Dragon Boat Races, which were followed with great interest last year, will be held in Ordu for the second time this year. The races, which are expected to attract a large number of participants from Ordu and also from the surrounding provinces, will feature adrenaline-filled moments in the calm waters of Gülyalı.

Registrations Have Started: Deadline May 4

The registration process for the Dragon Boat Races organized in collaboration with the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Culture, Tourism and Arts Department Youth, Sports and Healthy Life Branch Directorate and the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports has begun. Teams wishing to participate in the races to be held at the Durgun Water Sports Center in the Gülyalı district can apply via the e-mail address gssm@ordu.bel.tr. Each team will consist of 12 people and will consist of 10 rowers, 1 helmsman and 1 drummer. Teams aiming to participate in the Dragon Boat Races must fill out the Dragon Boat Races application form completely between April 24 and May 4 and send it to the specified e-mail address by the deadline.

Türkiye's Model Water Sports Facility in Ordu

The Water Sports Center, which Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler attaches special importance to, is the only one in Türkiye with its modern equipment. With its comprehensive facilities such as a 400-person tribune, special protocol lodge, race finish observation tower with photo finish camera, 6 portable floating docks, large spectator and athlete parking areas, 300-meter boathouse, 400-meter sales and promotion area, 1.142-meter vehicle and bicycle path, a passage bridge built over the stream outlet and accommodation areas for referees and athletes, the facility has successfully hosted many important national and international organizations since the day it was opened.

Integrated Facility with Bicycle and Walking Paths

The Water Sports Center, which is not only for water sports but also includes bicycle and walking paths, brings together different branches of sports. The observation tower, 4 93-person stands, light steel prefabricated boathouse, modern WC-shower and changing cabins, floating platforms, advanced infrastructure and landscaping works and the existing guesthouse building complete the exemplary structure of the facility. With these various structures it contains, the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Water Sports Center is shown as a pioneer and source of inspiration among the facilities built in this field in Türkiye.
