Antalya Police Intervenes in Illegal Chick Transportation

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Police teams prevented illegal live animal transportation during routine inspections at the Antalya Intercity Bus Terminal. During the inspections, 300 chicks that were detected to have been brought from Adana by bus illegally were seized.

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Police teams, who continue their continuous inspections against food and live animal transportation that threatens human health, noticed a suspicious situation during their checks at the bus terminal. During the inspection, 300 chicks sent from Adana and transported in a bus in complete violation of the legislation were found.

The person who came to collect the chicks quickly left the scene upon the intervention of the police teams. Thereupon, the police teams seized the live animals and started the necessary procedures. Since there was no document indicating where the chicks came from and in order to prevent the spread of epidemic diseases, especially bird flu, the Antalya District Agriculture and Forestry Directorate was immediately informed.

As a result of detailed inspections by the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams, an administrative fine was imposed on the carrier bus company, which acted contrary to legal regulations regarding live animal transportation, within the framework of the Veterinary Services, Plant Health, Food and Feed Law No. 5996. This rapid and on-site intervention by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Police teams was evaluated as an important step in terms of both protecting animal health and preventing possible public health risks.
