Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay met with neighborhood headmen to determine the problems experienced in Karabağlar and produce healthy solutions. Headmen in the district, which has 58 neighborhoods, conveyed the problems experienced in the urban transformation works carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Tugay requested the establishment of a commission to follow up on the issue affecting over 16 thousand citizens in 100 neighborhoods and to take steps towards providing a solution.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay held a coordination meeting with the Karabağlar district headmen at the Karabağlar Municipality Council Hall, hosted by Karabağlar Mayor Helil Kınay. Mayor Tugay, who listened to the needs of 58 neighborhoods from the headmen, noted that the district needed intensive work, especially in terms of urban transformation.
The issue of urban transformation was discussed
The urban transformation, which was initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change 13 years ago in Karabağlar on a 540-hectare area and turned into a never-ending story with the lawsuits filed by the citizens regarding the zoning plans prepared for the first stage of 101 hectares, was also on the agenda of the meeting. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay stated that he was following the issue closely but that the ministry was working on this area. Mayor Tugay, who requested that a commission be established to solve the problem, said, “The urban transformation problem in Karabağlar is one of the most important issues we want to solve. Work is not being done here either. Whatever is done now may be removed later. The roads may also change. The authority here lies with the ministry. They are doing the work. Everyone is being victimized because the work is delayed. Let's all work together to resolve this process. We can reach a conclusion where our citizens will not be victimized with a healthy plan in our beautiful district. As İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, we are also working on urban transformation.”
“We must work in a solution-oriented manner”
Mayor Tugay, who said that the mukhtars are the eyes and ears of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality as the people who know the problems of the neighborhoods best, said, “You are very valuable to us. We must establish healthy communication between us. Always being solution-oriented and working solution-oriented would be in the best interest of all of us. You can easily convey your problems to us. When our terms of office are over, we want to walk among you with our heads held high, our foreheads open and as people who have earned your love. The most valuable thing a person can have in this life is the love and respect he receives from the people around him. We are trying to deserve this. We are here to deserve it.”
“We are working to solve the city’s problems”
Stating that Izmir is a very special and beautiful city, President Tugay said, “Izmir is a place where socio-cultural life is strong. However, it has some problems with infrastructure. Urban transformation is one of the special work areas. Izmir is one of the best cities in Türkiye in terms of public transportation. Land, sea transportation, metro, rail system… We are working together with our trusted city planner friends to solve the city’s problems.”
Karabağlar Mayor Helil Kınay also stated that they have been working with their team for the development of Karabağlar for a year and said, "We will all continue to complete whatever is missing as a part of this team."
Birthday cake was cut for 9 neighborhood headmen
Following the meeting, a birthday cake was cut for Bahçelievler Neighborhood Headman Mehmet Kösem, Aydın Neighborhood Headman Veysi Turan, Gazi Neighborhood Headman Neşe Şahin, Yurdoğlu Neighborhood Headman Mustafa Sözüpek, Devrim Neighborhood Headman Neşe Kahraman, Peker Neighborhood Headman Abdulbaki Işık, General Kazım Özalp Neighborhood Headman Gönül Yetişen, Metin Oktay Neighborhood Headman Şahin Demir, and Ali Fuat Cebesoy Neighborhood Headman Talip Doğan.
