The TGV M project, France’s groundbreaking rail transport project, has been developing as part of a major innovation process since its launch in 2016. The French government supported the project through ADEME (Agence de l’Environnement Et de la Maîtrise de l’Énergie) and SGPI (Secrétariat Général Pour l’Investissement), bringing together leading companies in the sector such as Alstom and SNCF Voyageurs. This collaboration has combined the years of expertise of Alstom and SNCF experts to develop more sustainable, efficient and innovative solutions for rail transport.
New Generation TGV: A Start from Scratch, Learning from Previous Experiences
The TGV M is the fifth generation of high-speed trains, and although the teams started a design process from scratch, they also drew heavily on the experience of the previous four generations. This approach has allowed the TGV’s key features such as speed, comfort and energy efficiency to be further improved.
The design of the TGV M aimed to reduce environmental impacts in high-speed transport, increase passenger comfort and integrate technological innovations. Alstom’s engineering expertise and SNCF Voyageurs’ operational experience came together to improve every aspect of the train’s design. With this project, the new generation of the TGV aims to become a major reference point not only in France but also in global rail transport.
