Ukraine to Supply 2025 Million FPV Drones in 4,5

Ukraine has taken a strategic step towards increasing its capabilities on the battlefield against Russian forces, having maintained its position as the largest purchaser of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the past three years. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has significantly increased the supply of UAVs to its armed forces, and this increase in supply continues in line with the current dynamics of the war.

Increase in UAV Supply

The Director of the Procurement Policy Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Hlib Kanevskyi, stated that in recent years the number of UAVs delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine has increased significantly. Kanevskyi announced that by 2023 the Ministry of Defense will purchase thousands of UAVs, and by the end of 2024, more than 1,5 million UAVs will be purchased together with the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine. This increase directly contributes to Ukraine's strategic needs on the battlefield.

Targets for 2025 and Domestic Production

Ukraine’s domestic defense industry also aims to reach a large production capacity. Kanevskyi announced that domestic production is expected to reach 2025 million FPV (First Person View) drones by 4,5, and that all of these drones are planned to be procured by the Ministry of Defense. The ministry has allocated UAH 2025 billion (approximately $110 billion) for these purchases in 2.6. UAH 102 billion ($2.4 billion) of this amount will be channeled through the Defense Procurement Agency.

State Supported Production and Competition

Ukraine has begun producing drones through a state-backed enterprise as of January 2025. The initiative aims to reduce production costs by increasing competition in the market. Kanevskyi said that by ensuring low margins and strict government control at all stages of production, other manufacturers will be encouraged to lower prices, making drone procurement more affordable. This strategy will help Ukraine meet its defense needs faster and more affordably.

Increasing Use of FPV Drones and Technological Advances

The use of FPV drones has increased worldwide, especially due to their success during the Ukraine-Russia war. These drones have become more effective not only for reconnaissance purposes, but also by increasing their operational capabilities through the integration of weapons and ammunition. With technological advances, the drone supply to Ukraine’s armed forces continues to evolve in line with the current demands of warfare.

Ukraine’s increased UAV procurement and plans for domestic production aim to strengthen the country’s defense strategy. These steps in the defense industry will allow Ukraine to fight its war against Russia more effectively and efficiently.
