Trials of newly developed carriages for the Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsia have begun. These trials are being carried out by testing three passenger carriages on the Kremenchuk-Poltava-Kremenchuk route. These tests are seen as an important step towards making Ukrzaliznytsia’s future modern carriages more comfortable and efficient.
Innovations and Improvements in Wagon Design
On March 21, Maksym Kramarenko and managers inspected the open sleeper car manufactured by KRCBW and reported that the tests were successful. KRCBW approved the trials after following the progress of the 66-unit order. These cars, although having the 61-779 body, have been equipped with significant upgrades. The chassis, brakes and life support systems have been redesigned to increase passenger comfort.
The interior of the wagon has undergone significant changes in terms of both comfort and functionality. Designers have made improvements to the interior compartments, shelves and stainless steel materials to ensure passengers have a more comfortable travel experience. In addition, these designs, which were made in line with passenger feedback, aim to meet the needs of users.
New Features and Increased Comfort
With the new design, the luggage racks in the wagons were reduced in size, a table was added underneath, and the ergonomics of the upper bunks were improved. In this way, passengers can work with devices, eat or rest comfortably during the journey. A comfortable corner next to the windows, a newspaper rack and a large chest are among the features that increase the comfort of the passengers. In addition, stairs, handrails and grab bars are designed for passengers to reach the upper bunks more easily.
The wagons have adjustable lighting, USB outlets and soft lighting options for each passenger. There is also an energy-saving line. The wagon interior has nine six-person boxes and one four-person box. This new design replaces the side shelves with a linen closet, which makes more efficient use of space.
Comfortable Interior and Improved Ventilation
The crew compartment of the wagon is equipped with air conditioning and ventilation systems for passengers. These systems provide fresh air and circulation through two channels. There are also closed toilets, changing tables and double-type window shades. Braille signs have been increased to meet the needs of visually impaired passengers and localization has been increased by Ukrainian companies.
Tests and Final Steps
The tests of the carriages will be carried out by VTK specialists and the central control of the plant. Parts of the interior, seen in the photos, are covered with protective materials. Natalia Svystun, Viktor Shepel and Mykhailo Savchuk tested the carriage's systems and examined the brakes, doors, electrical, air conditioning and ventilation systems. The tests were carried out without any problems and the team completed the inspection in full. The protocols are currently underway and the carriages will be ready to go on the train in April.
Modern Wagons on the Road
In March, the plant will deliver SV type wagons, followed by open sleeper wagons. According to the agreed timetable, Ukrzaliznytsia aims to provide passengers with a better travel experience with modern and comfortable wagons. The new wagons will be a significant innovation on Ukrainian railways and will improve the quality of rail transport in the region.
