Türkiye's Fiber Optic Network Reaches Length Enough to Circle the World 14 Times

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu attended the traditional iftar program organized by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK). At this special night where BTK managers, employees and BTK Academy students came together, Minister Uraloğlu stated that Türkiye has made significant progress in the digital transformation process and that institutions such as BTK Academy play a critical role in this process.

Minister Uraloğlu placed great emphasis on the digitalization process of today's world in his speech. Stating that technology has penetrated into every area of ​​life and that information has become the most valuable capital, he said that the fundamental dynamic of this transformation is information technologies. He explained Türkiye's goals and breakthroughs in this digital revolution.

Uraloğlu, who said, “Software development is the architecture of the modern age,” stated that areas such as software development, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity have now gone beyond being mere technical areas of expertise and play a vital role in the economic development and national security of countries. He emphasized that software in particular is the most concrete expression of innovation power, and that Türkiye is determined to continue its technology-based development strategies.

Minister Uraloğlu stated that software has an important place in every aspect of life and that behind these technologies lies the intelligence and vision of talented software developers. Minister Uraloğlu stated that cyber security is the unseen heroes of the digital world. Drawing attention to the fact that threats have increased as much as the opportunities brought by the information age, he stated that Türkiye has taken a strong stance against external threats with its work in the field of cyber security. He underlined that cyber security experts have a critical role in ensuring security, especially in the digital world.

Türkiye's Digitalization Process

Minister Uraloğlu, who described Türkiye’s recent successes in the digital transformation process, particularly emphasized the developments in broadband internet and fiber optic infrastructure. Recalling that the fiber optic cable length in Türkiye was around 2002 thousand kilometers in 81, he stated that this length has reached 588 thousand kilometers today. He drew attention to the fact that the fiber optic cable length has increased enough to circle the Earth 14 times.

Speaking about e-government applications, Uraloğlu said, “With the e-Government Gateway, our citizens can resolve their affairs with the state in seconds.” He drew attention to the fact that there are 67,5 million registered users in Türkiye’s e-government application today and 8 services are offered through this platform.

5G and Smart Infrastructures

Minister Uraloğlu stated that Türkiye is also accelerating its transition to 5G technology. He said that after the 5G trials at Istanbul Airport, 5G technology has also started to be used in large stadiums in Istanbul. Uraloğlu stated that the transition to 2026G technology will be completed throughout Turkey by 5, and that they have accelerated their work in this area and that collaborations have been initiated to establish domestic base stations.

BTK Academy: The Future of Digital Türkiye

Minister Uraloğlu stated that BTK Academy is one of the largest platforms in Türkiye in the field of digital education and has provided training to more than 2,5 million users to date. BTK Academy, which started operating in 2017, has become the largest local online education platform in Türkiye. While the Academy provides classroom training to 314 students in 11 training titles, it also offers various training programs for university students and new graduates.
