Cat, the Mascot of the Riot Police, Becomes Police's Watch Companion

The cat named “Panda”, who was adopted from the riot police station where he took shelter in Aksaray, never leaves the police's side.

Aslıhan Ulubaş and Tuğçe Candan, who are on duty at the July 15 National Will Square Rapid Response Force Waiting Point in the city center, found an exhausted kitten under the bushes across from their campus about a year ago. The kitten, who was understood to be a newborn, was taken to the police station.

The cat, some of whose needs are met by the Animal Condition Monitoring (HAYDI) teams, is closely cared for by the staff working at the center.

“As long as Panda is with me, I will always be with him”

Aslıhan Ulubaş, one of the police officers who dealt with the “panda,” said that she loved cats very much and that she had two cats at home.

Aslıhan Ulubaş, who said that they have not been separated from the cat they found under the bushes while they were keeping watch, said the following:

“When we first met, he was a cub. We gave him milk, food and water, and took care of him. That’s how he got used to us. I named him ‘Panda’ because of his color. We look after our cat here. He waits for me when I come to work in the morning. When he sees me get off the minibus, he immediately runs to me. The first thing I do is give him his food. Then we start our duties. We took special care of him during the winter. When we left in the evening, I specifically asked my friends to put his food and water in there. As a good animal lover, I also support stray animals. As long as Panda is with me, I will always be with him.”

“It wouldn’t be wrong to say that they are keeping an eye on the surroundings with us”

Police officer Tuğçe Candan stated that she was responsible for the security of the city at the waiting point.

Emphasizing that “Panda” is keeping watch with them and has become an indispensable part of the point, Tuğçe Candan noted the following:

"He slept next to the radiator in the winter. It wouldn't be wrong to say that he looks after the surroundings with us. We love him very much. We look after him with all our friends. We are here 5 days a week. On the days I have off, I sometimes call our friends to make sure he eats, and sometimes if I'm close, I come here and check on him."
