March 21st Down Syndrome Awareness Day is of great importance in terms of integrating special individuals into society and creating awareness. Within the scope of this meaningful day, the Cyprus Car Museum hosted 20 special students from the Special Education Foundation (ÖZEV).
As part of the visit organized by the Near East University Hospital, students who toured the Cyprus Car Museum with their teachers had the opportunity to closely examine valuable classic and modern cars. Students who received information about the history and technical features of the vehicles had an enjoyable and educational experience.
Down syndrome is a condition that occurs as a genetic difference in individuals and is characterized by the presence of an extra chromosome in the 21st chromosome pair. Although this genetic difference causes some physical and cognitive differences in the development of the individual, individuals with Down syndrome can take on active roles in society when provided with appropriate education, support and social participation opportunities.
The participation of individuals with Down syndrome in education, social life and business life is of great importance in revealing their potential. World Down Syndrome Awareness Day also aims to raise awareness in society and emphasize that individuals with Down syndrome have equal rights.
This meaningful event, organized by the Near East University Hospital and the Cyprus Car Museum in collaboration with ÖZEV, is a good example of supporting the processes of discovery, learning and participation in social life of children with Down syndrome.
Admiration, happiness and discovery all in one!
The Cyprus Car Museum hosted children with Down syndrome and provided them with an unforgettable day. The vehicles, which won the admiration of the children with their eye-catching designs, nostalgic details and impressive colors, took them on a fascinating journey from the past to the present.
The children, who toured the different sections of the museum with great excitement, were most interested in sports cars. With their bright colors, powerful stances and extraordinary designs, these vehicles were the pieces that caught their attention the most. The children, who had the opportunity to closely examine many legendary sports cars such as the Jaguar that broke the 300 km/h speed limit for the first time, the Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster, and the Dodge Viper SRT10 Final Edition, could not hide their admiration. The visual feast in the museum was not limited to classic cars. While the children examined the Batman and Transformers figures with great curiosity, they had a pleasant time by the pool where koi fish were swimming. The children, who spent moments in touch with nature in the garden, immortalized these special moments by taking many photos in the enchanting atmosphere of the museum.
