The TYPE 55 SAT boats, produced for the Iraqi Ministry of Defense in a joint venture between ENM KOREA and ARES Shipyard, have begun their duties. In this context, the ceremony held at the ARES Shipyard facilities in Antalya was attended by Iraqi Ministry of Defense officials and delegations. After a 20-month production process, 3 TYPE 55 SAT boats, built in cooperation between ENM KOREA and ARES Shipyard, have begun their patrol duties in the UM Qaser region of Iraq.

Technical Specifications of the Bots

The TYPE 55 SAT boats have a proven design at sea with their aluminum hull structure. The boats can reach a speed of 30 knots per hour and have the capacity to carry a special task force of 12 people with all their equipment. They are also equipped with state-of-the-art remote-controlled weapon systems and ballistic protection that can protect themselves and their valuable cargo against imminent threats. These features are among the elements that distinguish the TYPE 55 SAT boats from other boats of their type.

Job Competencies and Areas of Use

In addition to their main duties, TYPE 55 SAT boats, which can successfully serve in challenging missions such as asymmetric warfare, territorial water control and coordinated joint operations, started patrols in Iraq with the aim of increasing maritime security.

Pride and Successes of ARES Shipyard

ARES Shipyard General Manager Oğuzhan Pehlivanlı stated that the first ship export to Iraq in the history of the Republic of Turkey was realized with this project and said, “We have demonstrated a proven example of ARES Shipyard’s 19 years of engineering and shipbuilding experience with this project. TYPE 55 SAT boats stand out as the best boats in their class, manufactured with high technology and having superior capabilities.”

This project stands out as an important indicator that Türkiye's engineering achievements in the shipbuilding sector are finding a wider place in the international arena.
