
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has become a member of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Urban Mobility Community, Europe's largest innovation community, as a Leading City. Europe's leading research institutes, universities, cities and companies take part in the EIT Urban Mobility Community as "Leading City".
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues to collaborate with important organizations in Europe. In line with the studies carried out by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department, Izmir has become a member of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Urban Mobility Community, Europe’s largest innovation community, as a Pioneer City. Working to develop solutions to the mobility problems that cities face, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Urban Mobility Community collaborates to make city life easier. In addition to achieving the European Union’s CO2 (carbon dioxide) reduction targets, the community contributes to fundamental EU strategies and initiatives such as the Green Deal, the 2030 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Mission by 100, and Horizon Europe, and will also contribute to Izmir’s 2030 zero carbon target.
What does joining the network provide?
Cities in the EIT Urban Mobility network are offered a number of opportunities. They gain opportunities such as connecting with cities to discover the challenges they face, reaching the financing opportunities needed to achieve sustainability goals, turning cities into living laboratories, increasing citizen participation and increasing the visibility of cities. In this context, EIT Urban Mobility members are offered special advantages regarding participation in the Tomorrow Mobility World Congress and other events. In addition, financial support is provided to develop innovative solutions to urban mobility problems identified by cities through the “Rapid Apps for Transport (RAPTOR)” call for the challenges cities face in the field of transport and mobility.

In addition to Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, Konya Metropolitan Municipality from Türkiye are included in the EIT Urban Mobility network. Kadıköy Municipality, ISBAK (Istanbul Informatics and Smart City Technologies Inc.) and Sabancı University.
