Innovative Soilless Agriculture Application at Konya Science Center

Konya Metropolitan Municipality, which conducts R&D studies on soilless production for Urban Agriculture, created a soilless agriculture area in the garden of Konya Science Center.

The soilless agricultural area created in the garden of Konya Science Center, Türkiye's first and largest science center supported by TÜBİTAK and brought to the city by Konya Metropolitan Municipality, constitutes an important model for Konya agriculture.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay, who made examinations at the center where R&D studies are carried out in the field of soilless agriculture, stated that they are carrying out important studies on increasing the income of citizens living in rural areas in the agricultural city of Konya and on making sustainable agriculture.

TESTING WITH AUTOMATION USING ONLY WATER

Noting that they carried out a trial with automation using only water in the soilless agriculture area they established in the Science Center garden, President Altay said, “The basic principle in farming is not to explain, but to be able to change the production variety by seeing. Therefore, as a result of these studies we have carried out, we want to provide our farmers with the opportunity to explain how efficient this work is and the studies on its sustainability in the training areas we will create and to develop such applications in Konya.”

“WE ARE CONDUCTING STUDIES TO REVEAL THE MODERN METHODS USED ALL OVER THE WORLD”

Mayor Altay, who drew attention to the fact that Konya is a large agricultural city but also a city with serious water problems, said, “Therefore, while we prefer plants that require less water in our agricultural areas, we also carry out studies to reveal modern methods used all over the world. By compiling these studies, we strive to create new agricultural models that will enable our farmers to earn more in their daily lives.”
