Bodrium Hotel & SPA Business Development Director Özkan Köse said that they signed an important cooperation with Menteşe Tourism Vocational High School and Practice Hotel to support the need for qualified personnel in the tourism sector.
Stating that tourism vocational high schools provide important human resources for the sector, Köse said that they share equipment for vocational training.
Özkan Köse, who emphasized that they consider the support for tourism students as an investment, said, “Menteşe Tourism Vocational High School asked us for equipment that we do not use to evaluate in different departments such as service, kitchen, housekeeping. We delivered to them the products we took out of our inventory such as textile materials from housekeeping and plates, glasses, ceramic materials from the food and beverage department. Students need to know how to open a service for the first time and which champagne or wine glass is. We consider the support for tourism students as an investment. We know that vocational training will have a positive impact on the sector. The more we can contribute to the students here, the more important it is. We also take interns from high schools. As Bodrum, we will donate the products we take out of our inventory at the end of the year.”
WE WANT TO BE PIONEERS
Özkan Köse, who noted that they are pioneers in supporting the sector as Bodrium Hotel, said: “There are many facilities here, there is a serious tourism student population in the tourism region. We need to support these students and bring them into the sector. Since the internship period in high schools is 5 months, they can adapt to the profession better. We thought that we could provide added value to their education as a hotel. This is actually an example of professional solidarity. As you know, there is a shortage of qualified personnel in tourism. These students start receiving education when they are 13-14 years old. When they choose the same department at university, they receive only tourism education for 7-8 years. All the theoretical information is loaded to these children. We also need to support them practically.”
SUPPORT FOR TOURISM ENTERTAINERS OF THE FUTURE
Bodrium Hotel & SPA General Manager Yiğit Girgin also expressed that they believe sustainable tourism can be achieved not only by setting certain rules, but also by investing in young people and encouraging them to the tourism sector.
Girgin continued his words as follows: “In this context, we participated in Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Career Days in order to support educational institutions that train future tourism professionals. Afterwards, we visited Muğla Menteşe Atatürk Tourism Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. During our visit, we came together with our valuable teachers and received information about the school’s educational processes and internship programs. In addition, we contributed to the professional development of our students by delivering service materials that they can use in practical lessons to our school. We had the opportunity to participate in the practical lesson prepared by our students and had the chance to experience the treats they prepared with great devotion. Seeing the interest and enthusiasm of the young people in the profession made us proud once again. Contributing to the education of the young people who will shape the future of the tourism sector and supporting their development is a great source of happiness for us.”
