Eskişehir Zoo, which has hosted millions of visitors since its opening and is a member of EAZA, continues to set an example with its work. Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Veterinary Affairs Department Head Nurben Fatma Koptekin represented Türkiye at the International Bald Ibis Symposium held in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
The symposium, which brought together scientists, nature conservationists and local government representatives from all over the world, addressed the protection of endangered bald ibises, their reproduction and the improvement of their natural habitats. The symposium, which attracted 15 participants from 76 countries, discussed scientific research on the protection of bald ibises, the use of biotechnological methods and the importance of international collaborations.
Koptekin, who made a presentation about the conservation efforts carried out by the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Zoo Branch Directorate, provided information about bald ibis conservation projects in Türkiye. The presentation emphasized the responsibilities undertaken by local governments and the public in this process.
During the technical tour organized as part of the symposium, bald ibis breeding stations and artificial nest areas were visited and successful projects were examined on site. Sharing Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality's efforts to protect natural life internationally was of great importance in terms of introducing Türkiye's efforts in this area.
