Critical Warning Against Kitchen Fires from Ankara Fire Department

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department issued an important warning in order to prevent kitchen accidents. Authorities stated that incorrect intervention in flaming frying oil could lead to major disasters and informed citizens about what to do.

Ankara Fire Department reminded that flaming oil should never be intervened with water, and stated that it is also vital to cut off the flames from contact with oxygen.

Ankara Fire Department, which continues its awareness-raising efforts for citizens in case of fire, emphasized that incorrect interventions in flaming hot oil can cause major fires. Ankara Fire Department, which warned citizens against hot oil fires frequently encountered in kitchens, emphasized that the biggest mistake in such incidents, which can lead to serious fires as a result of incorrect intervention, is to pour water into hot oil.

WATER MAKES THE FLAMES BIGGER

Water poured into hot oil instantly turns into steam, splashing the oil into the air and causing the flames to spread to a much wider area. This can cause the fire to get out of control and cause great damage. Ankara Fire Department officials stated that water should never be used in such fires.

CORRECT INTERVENTION METHODS

Explaining how to respond correctly to hot oil fires, Ankara Fire Department recommends the following methods:

  • Cover the pan or pot: It is one of the most effective methods to cut off the flame's contact with oxygen.
  • Cover with a wet cloth or towel:If you don't have a lid, covering the flames with a damp cloth or thick towel can also help extinguish the flames.
  • Turn off the stove:Turn off the stove or heat source immediately to prevent the fire from spreading.
  • Use Fire Extinguisher:Fight the flames with a dry chemical powder fire extinguisher from a distance of 2 meters.
  • Call the fire department:If the fire is getting out of control, get professional help by calling the 112 Emergency Call Center.
