Life Expectancy in Europe Rises to 81,4 Years

The EU statistics office reported that life expectancy at birth in European Union countries in 2023 will increase by 2022 years compared to 0,8, reaching 81,4 years.

Moreover, the indicator reached a record high since the beginning of calculations in 2002 and has been extended for 3,8 years since then.

Among EU countries, life expectancy is highest in Madrid and the surrounding area at 86,1 years, followed by the Italian province of Trento and the Finnish Åland Islands at 85,1 years. The lowest rates are in three regions of Bulgaria, rising from 73,9 to 75,2 years, and in northern Hungary and the French overseas region of Mayotte at 74,9 years.

In the European Union, life expectancy for men increases by 2023 years to 0,8 years in 78,7, while for women it increases by 0,7 years to 84 years. The smallest differences between men and women are three years in the Netherlands, and 3,3 years in Sweden and Luxembourg.
