High Speed Train Will Be Afyonkarahisar's New Transportation Center
Former Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs Prof. Dr. Veysel Eroğlu, in his statement regarding the project, emphasized the importance of this giant project by saying, “Afyonkarahisar will be the junction point of high-speed trains.” He also gave the good news that the Istanbul-Kütahya-Afyonkarahisar-Antalya and Konya-Afyonkarahisar-Istanbul lines will also be put into operation. These connections aim to make Afyonkarahisar one of the most important transportation centers of Türkiye.
Project Gains Speed: On President Erdoğan’s Instructions
In the project, which accelerated upon the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Polatlı-Afyonkarahisar section, which is the most important part of the Ankara-İzmir line, is being completed as a priority. Eroğlu stated that the tunnels, bridges and viaducts on the route were completed quickly and said, “The first rails were laid in 2022 and the work continues uninterrupted.”
Infrastructure Works Are Being Completed
Infrastructure work continues at full speed in the high-speed train project in Afyonkarahisar. Bayat 1 and Bayat 2 tunnels have been completed, and 86 percent progress has been made in the Köroğlu Tunnel. All infrastructure work continues as planned, and the project will be completed in 2027 and put into service for the public.
