Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) has taken an important step by making a historical change in the traffic signaling systems around Anıtkabir, adding aesthetic and cultural meaning to the city. This arrangement includes traffic lights decorated with symbolic dates related to Atatürk's life and the foundation of the Republic. ABB has changed the traffic signals of 5 intersections around Anıtkabir to refer to important years in Atatürk's life.

Intersections Equipped with Symbolic Histories

With the new regulation, the years 1881, 1919, 1920, 1923 and 1938 were used in traffic signals at the intersections around Anıtkabir. These dates symbolize important turning points from 1881, the year of Atatürk's birth, to 1923, the year of the proclamation of the Republic. Here are the new traffic signal codes and the intersections where these codes are located:

  • 1881: GMK Boulevard-Anit Street and Anadolu Square intersection
  • 1919: Youth Street-Unitişten Street intersection
  • 1920: Youth Street-Akdeniz Street intersection
  • 1923: Mediterranean Street-Spor Park Street intersection (Anıtkabir Mediterranean Street Gate)
  • 1938: Intersection of Akdeniz Street-Mareşal Fevzi Çakmak Street

With these changes, a traffic regulation was created that was not only for the vehicles that navigate the city, but also equipped with important historical reminders.

Cultural and Aesthetic Richness

With this arrangement, ABB aimed to create historical and cultural added value around Anıtkabir, one of the symbols of Ankara. Having previously made an aesthetic touch with the signaling systems it decorated with “Crescent Star” visuals, ABB contributed to the city both visually and culturally with this new arrangement.

This innovative approach around Anıtkabir once again demonstrates ABB's vision that prioritizes aesthetics and cultural richness. This arrangement has been appreciated as an important step that adds value to the cultural identity of the capital and enriches it visually.
