44,3 km of road constructed in Malatya Earthquake Housing Area

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, together with General Director of Highways Ahmet Gülşen, visited the İkizce Earthquake Housing Connection Roads construction site in Malatya. Minister Uraloğlu, who received information about the works from the authorities, made statements to the press after his examinations.

Minister Uraloğlu stated that the transportation and infrastructure works needed by the new settlement areas following the February 6 earthquakes were carried out by the General Directorate of Highways. Stating that works were carried out in 8 provinces within this scope, Uraloğlu said that a total of 2 kilometers of road was built in the İkizce-44,3 Earthquake Housing region in Malatya.

“We have completed a 29,5-kilometer section so far. Our goal is to increase this figure to 32 kilometers by the end of the month. We plan to complete the remaining section by the end of the year,” said Minister Uraloğlu, emphasizing that in addition to road construction, drinking water, sewage, drainage, electricity and telecom lines are also being built simultaneously.

Uraloğlu stated that two junctions on the D-4,4 highway will be built within the scope of the project worth approximately 1 billion liras, to serve the Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) and TOKİ 2st and 300nd regions, and that the work is progressing as planned, and although there are occasional delays depending on seasonal conditions, the process is generally progressing well.

“Our goal is to complete both the housing and the infrastructure and transportation works by the end of the year. Thus, our earthquake-affected citizens will have the opportunity to reach their new homes via asphalt roads,” said Uraloğlu, adding that the project will significantly ease transportation in the region.
