Kartepe, an important center of winter tourism in Kocaeli, was flooded with holidaymakers over the weekend. While holidaymakers, who crowded the Kartepe Ski Center, enjoyed the snow by skiing, the Metropolitan teams kept the road open by shoveling snow and applying salt against icing.
EXCESSIVE CONDENSATION ON KARTEPE ROAD
Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality continues its snow removal and salting operations on a 24-hour basis to keep the roads open and to prevent any negativity due to the snowfall that started in the higher parts of the city. In particular, the main road leading to Kartepe Ski Center is kept open at all times. Holidaymakers who came to Kartepe Ski Center for the weekend experienced traffic congestion due to the density at the return time. On Sunday, when holidaymakers returned at the same time, there was extreme congestion on Kartepe road. Despite the road being cleared of snow and kept open, the traffic density made it almost impossible for vehicles to move forward.
UNINTERRUPTED SHELLING AND SALTING WORK
The Metropolitan Municipality Snow Fighting Teams work in two shifts, day and night, in areas with heavy snowfall. Kartepe, which offers its guests unique beauties with its views of Lake Sapanca and Izmit Bay, especially at the 1.600-meter peak of the Samanlı Mountains, approximately 1,5 hours from Istanbul, is flooded with holidaymakers during the winter season. In this context, the Metropolitan teams carry out shoveling and salting work 24 hours a day to keep the road to Kartepe Ski Center open.
METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY KEPT THE ROAD OPEN
Since it was Sunday, holidaymakers flocking to the ski resort returned at the same time, and there was heavy traffic on the Kartepe road. Traffic also came to a standstill due to some drivers parking their vehicles on the road left and right. Metropolitan teams kept the road open by shoveling snow and salting against ice, but vehicles could not move for a long time due to the density of vehicles. Gendarmerie teams went to regulate the traffic flow. The teams closed the exit of the Kartepe road to traffic and gave the descents two lanes. After this intervention, the traffic density was largely relieved. After a while, the road was completely opened to traffic and traffic returned to normal.
