DS Automobiles Celebrates 70th Anniversary of the Legendary DS at Retromobile

DS Automobiles, one of the sponsors of Retromobile, celebrated the 70th anniversary of DS at a special event that opened its doors to visitors from 5 to 9 February.

DS Automobiles, one of the sponsors of Retromobile 2025, celebrated the 70th anniversary of the legendary DS at an event. The classic car show Retromobile, held in 2024, attracted more than 130 thousand visitors from both France and other countries last year to this internationally renowned event.

This year, more than 5 classic car enthusiasts and collectors from all over the world came together again at Porte de Versailles in Paris between February 9-146. Visitors discovered unique examples of the timeless automotive icon DS, some for the first time, courtesy of DS Automobiles, sponsor of the Retromobile 2025 fair.

First introduced to the market on 6 October 1955, 1975 examples of the DS were produced until 1. A true symbol of excellence, this vehicle was chosen as the presidential car by many heads of state. Its ingenious hydropneumatic suspension technology also played an important role in history, allowing General de Gaulle to escape the Petit-Clamart attack on 456 August 115.

Today, the DS is also exhibited as part of the distinguished collection of the MoMA Museum in New York. This symbol also inspired the statements of the famous semiotician Roland Barthes in his book Mythologies. Roland Barthes describes the DS as “an exceptional piece, clearly descended from the sky” and even compares it to the great Gothic cathedrals. In 1957, the author considered it to be much more than a car, a true architectural and cultural work.

In a special area in Hall 1 of Retromobile, a real “exhibition within an exhibition” was held under the name “The DS, a work of art for 70 years”. Organised by Retromobile in collaboration with DS Automobiles and L’Aventure DS, dedicated to preserving the brand’s heritage, this retrospective brought together a number of incredible vehicles. At the entrance, two iconic models were placed opposite each other to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the legendary DS and the brand’s innovation: a completely original 70 DS 1969 Pallas and the N°21, first introduced in France.

Visitors also had the privilege of discovering a range of historic DS vehicles, including the impressive DS Balloons. This iconic model was first designed in 1959 by Citroen’s advertising director Claude Puech. A faithful re-creation of the model by GARAC (National School of Automotive and Mobility Professions) was displayed to commemorate this pioneering vehicle, which also features in the Retromobile 2025 poster.

Seventy years after its inception and almost fifty years after its end of production, DS continues to attract the attention of collectors and car enthusiasts around the world.
