BelPlas AŞ, a subsidiary of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, offers environmentally sensitive and sustainable recycling solutions. Damaged tree waste from across the city is processed at the Zero Waste Green Recycling Facility in Kahramankazan and converted into pellet fuel and organic cat litter.
BelPlas AŞ, a subsidiary of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, continues to implement environmentally friendly recycling projects.
Trees that are dried, pruned, felled or insect-infested throughout the city, as well as their branches, bushes and dry organic waste are collected for processing. The trunks of damaged and dried trees are processed into pellet fuel at the Zero Waste Green Conversion Facility in Kahramankazan, while dry organic waste such as branches and bushes are converted into cat litter.
TREE TRUNKS TURN INTO FUEL
Pellet production, which stands out among the efficient fuels in terms of being environmentally friendly, burning time and the energy it provides, is carried out at the Zero Waste Green Transformation Facility belonging to the Metropolitan Municipality.
The transformation process, which begins with the trunks of trees that have been damaged and had to be cut down throughout the capital, being brought to the facility, continues with the grinding of the logs. The resulting ground pieces are dried, compressed and turned into pellet fuel.
ALL ORGANIC WASTES ARE RECYCLED
Organic tree waste such as branches, bark and brushwood that do not have the characteristics of lumber and logs are also included in the recycling process.
These parts also go through the same processes required to obtain pellet fuel. However, since these materials are low in calories, they are not used as fuel but as organic cat litter. In this way, waste is prevented from harming nature and a sustainable recycling model is created.
ECOLOGICAL FIGHT AGAINST PESTS WITH PHEROMONE TRAP
The “Pheromone Traps” placed in the wooded areas of Çubuk-1 Dam, Mavi Lake, Elmadağ Picnic Area and Kurtboğazı Dam have started to be placed in all wooded areas throughout the city. This application, which prefers natural methods instead of chemical substances, protects the ecological balance in green areas while ensuring an effective fight against all pests, especially “woodlice”.
BelPlas AŞ protects the ecological balance of the capital with all these environmentally friendly applications and offers environmentally friendly solutions to global problems such as global warming, environmental pollution and depletion of energy resources. These initiatives aim to leave a more livable environment for the future by protecting Ankara's green areas.
2 THOUSAND STOVES AND 2 THOUSAND TONS OF PELLET FUEL WERE DISTRIBUTED
BelPLAS AŞ Deputy General Manager Ali Tokmak, who emphasized that some pests cause more damage to trees than forest fires, said, “We are fighting against pests we call ‘pine aphids’, which have recently come to the fore again, in the forests. We are currently applying the ‘Pheromone Traps’ that we started in Çubuk 3 Dam 1 years ago to most forest lands in Ankara. In this forest clearance, we collect the waste and take it to our recycling facility in Kahramankazan and turn it into sawdust there. As a result of various processes, we obtain pellet fuel and cat litter from the waste. We distribute the pellets we make in our facilities to families receiving social assistance, places of worship and mukhtars.”
Tokmak stated that 2 thousand pellet stoves and 2 thousand tons of pellets were distributed under the coordination of our Social Services Department and through BelPlas AŞ and said the following:
“Our environmentally friendly pellets are higher in calories and have almost no waste compared to coal, which causes air pollution and carbon monoxide emissions in adverse winds and even deaths. We, as the BelPlas family, are happy to eliminate the heating problems of our places of worship and mukhtars in these extremely cold days.”
