
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the Zübeyde Hanım Training and Exhibition Ship was reopened to public visits today after the completion of maintenance and repair work. Minister Uraloğlu also underlined that an average of 75 thousand people visit the ship every year.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that they have completed the six-month maintenance and repair work of the Zübeyde Hanım Education and Exhibition Ship, named after the mother of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Uraloğlu stated that the ship, which is stationed at the İzmir Passport Pier, was reopened to visitors today and said, “Our Zübeyde Hanım Education and Exhibition Ship continues to provide service with the aim of spreading maritime culture and increasing maritime awareness in our country.”
“We Aim to Increase the Interest of Our Youth in Maritime”
Uraloğlu, who stated that they are bringing maritime history and culture to the masses with the Zübeyde Hanım Education and Exhibition Ship, said, “Our ship contains historical objects, books and exhibition areas related to our Coastal Safety General Directorate and the maritime sector. With the principle of ‘maritime nation, maritime country’, we aim to strengthen our society’s connection with the sea, increase our youth’s interest in maritime and contribute to maritime education.”
An average of 75 thousand people visit the ship annually
Minister Uraloğlu, who stated that the Zübeyde Hanım Ship was put into service on March 11, 2014, reminded that the ship was added to the fleet by the General Directorate of Coastal Safety and converted into an education-exhibition ship. Uraloğlu said, “The Zübeyde Hanım Education and Exhibition Ship offers an important opportunity to introduce our citizens, especially our youth, who are interested in maritime to sea culture. An average of 75 thousand people visit our ship every year.”
Education and Culture Center
Minister Uraloğlu stated that they will continue their efforts to spread maritime culture and love of the sea to wider masses and said, “We see this project as an education and culture center that everyone interested in maritime, especially our youth, can benefit from.”
Zübeyde Hanım Ship, located at İzmir Pasaport Pier, can be visited free of charge every day between 10.00-17.30, except Mondays and Thursdays.
