Snow Shift in Istanbul: IMM Teams Worked Day and Night!

Due to the snowfall and cold weather conditions in Istanbul, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) teams carried out intensive work in the field. Snow removal, salting and anti-icing operations continued uninterruptedly with 11.916 personnel and 3.375 vehicles. While there were no serious disruptions in Istanbul in general, teams took precautions at main arteries, overpasses, metro entrances and exits and bus stops.

SALTING WORKS IN MAIN ARTERIES AND CRITICAL POINTS

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality teams worked in a ring formation on the main transportation axes in the districts affected by the snowfall, ensuring that the roads remained open. Due to heavy snowfall in Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Büyükçekmece and Esenyurt districts on the European Side, teams accelerated salting operations throughout the night. Salting vehicles were directed to the main arteries as the snowfall increased in intensity in the Başakşehir Organized Industrial Zone.

While snow removal work was carried out along Dutdere Street in Beykoz, salting operations were carried out for pedestrians at critical points such as Beykoz Ten Fountains Square and Çubuklu Car Ferry Pier.

METROBUS, OVERPASSES AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION POINTS PRECAUTIONS

Salting operations were carried out on bridges, overpasses and pedestrian paths along the metrobus lines. Snow removal and anti-icing salting operations were carried out especially in heavily used areas such as Edirnekapı, Çağlayan, İDO entrances and exits and metro stations. In addition, measures against icing were taken throughout the night in critical pedestrian areas such as Üsküdar Square, Dudullu Metro Entrances and Exits, and Şile Road Overpasses.

SECURITY PRECAUTIONS AND INTERVENTIONS

As part of the snow removal efforts, some maintenance and repair operations were also carried out to ensure safety on the roads. The traffic signs that were dislodged on the 15 July Martyrs Street in Eyüpsultan were fixed. The lighting pole that fell down on the Atatürk Street in Eyüpsultan was intervened.

WORKS CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT

Shoveling and salting operations continued throughout the night on the main transportation roads in Çatalca and Silivri districts. The risk of snow accumulation and icing continues as temperatures throughout the city remain at 1 degree and below.

TEAMS IN THE RING

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality teams are constantly checking their routes in areas affected by snowfall and continue their salting and shoveling operations to prevent any possible disruptions. Snowfall is expected to continue intermittently in some parts of Istanbul today. IMM teams continue their watch on the field.
