Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay attended the launch of the 100th anniversary celebrations of Göztepe, one of the most established clubs in Izmir. President Tugay, who said that Göztepe is an important part of Izmir's history, said, "Göztepe's athletes, young athletes are the pride of all of us, the pride of Izmir. Happy 100th anniversary. As an Izmir native who knows very well what Göztepe culture is, I am always with you as the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor."
Göztepe, one of the most established clubs in Turkish football history, has begun preparations for its 100th anniversary celebrations. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay also attended the launch of Göztepe's 14th anniversary celebrations, which were founded on June 1925, 100. The celebrations to be held in memory of the special year were explained in the program held at Gürsel Aksel Stadium, and the logo specially designed for this year and determined by fan votes was also showcased at the event. İzmir Governor Dr. Süleyman Elban, Göztepe Sports Club Honorary President Mehmet Sepil, members of parliament, managers of the red and yellow club, football players, young athletes and fans also attended the launch. The torch of the 100th anniversary celebrations was lit with the great enthusiasm of the fans.

Speaking at the introductory meeting, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay said, “Like Mehmet Sepil, I also spent my childhood a few hundred meters away. I had the chance to closely watch, observe and witness a part of Göztepe’s glorious history. Göztepe has an irreplaceable share in Izmir’s sports history. It is also Izmir’s only representative in the Super League. We are all proud of the successes of this club, which has contributed to the training of many amateur athletes in 16 branches. Göztepe’s athletes and young athletes are the pride of all of us, the pride of Izmir. Therefore, happy 100th anniversary. As an Izmir native who knows very well what Göztepe culture is, as the current mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, I greet the people of Göztepe who follow in Atatürk’s footsteps. Elban: To many more successful and proud centuries
İzmir Governor Dr. Süleyman Elban said, “A few months will pass with pride and beautiful events. We are starting a series of events that will reach their peak on June 14th in this stadium. Many clubs have special and beautiful days, but this is the only celebration that is worthy of the past, history and success of their own club. I congratulate Mehmet Sepil. I thank Mehmet Sepil not only for being in the Super League; not only for bringing a new understanding to football, but also for involving the youth of the entire city in sports in all branches of sports, giving them a different feeling and excitement, and showing that sports is not just about doing sports, that a sports club is not just a football club or an association. Stating that the 100th year motto is “100 Years with Glory and Honor, We Are Always Eye to Eye” and providing information about the events, Göztepe Sports Club Honorary President Mehmet Sepil said, “Today, we are all together here to light our 100th year torch, the torch of celebrations. I want to say what it means to be from Göztepe. Göztepe is the torch of determination, the torch of success. It is the torch of our children’s health, joy, and success. It is the torch of friendship, camaraderie and bromance. It is the torch of solidarity, power, our ideals and dreams shoulder to shoulder.
