The Czech Ministry of Transport has announced the Underground Station project, which will be built beneath Prague’s main railway hub. This project will significantly increase transport accessibility in the metropolitan area and improve passenger flow within the city.
Project Details: Two-Storey Station and Long Tunnels
The project aims to build a two-story station connected by two double-track tunnels with four underground platforms. The railway infrastructure operator Správa železnic (SŽ) designed the project to meet the increasing demand for transport. The two tunnels will be located at different levels and will have a total length of 10,6 kilometers. This arrangement aims to manage long-distance and regional train traffic more efficiently.
The Project's Impact on Prague's Transportation System
The construction of the underground station is a project that will transform Prague’s transportation. The plan includes a structure that includes five stations and significantly improves pedestrian and transport accessibility. Authorities considered three different options before choosing the project, but rejected two proposals, ultimately opting for the most suitable plan.
The construction cost is estimated at CZK 185 billion (€7,66 billion). The development will make the transport experience in Prague more efficient and accessible for both locals and visitors, while also significantly increasing the capacity of the city’s rail network.
