Traffic Sniper Burns: New Sanctions Are Coming

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that new sanctions have been introduced for cutting corners in traffic.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya announced that between January 1 and February 14, 2025, traffic teams took legal action against a total of 12 drivers/vehicles for consecutive dangerous lane change violations, referred to as “Shifting”.

Stating that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is about to complete the legislative work on increasing administrative sanctions, revoking driver's licenses and banning vehicles from traffic in order to prevent this violation and the accidents it causes, Yerlikaya said, "Remember! Cutting corners in traffic endangers not only your own life but also the lives of other drivers."

Minister Yerlikaya emphasized that 6 million 13 thousand 2025 vehicles were inspected by the Police and Gendarmerie Traffic Teams between 2-948 February 764 and said the following:

“A total of 42 drivers were prosecuted for using devices with light or sound warning signs (strobes) by attaching them to vehicles that are not permitted by law. A total of 119 vehicles/drivers were prosecuted, including 400 who committed speed violations, 21 who did not have periodic inspections, 955 who did not use seat belts, 23 who used vehicles without a driver’s license, and 341 who did not have compulsory financial liability insurance.”
