The “Pay As You Go” Project, which Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality plans to implement soon, will offer a flexible pricing model in public transportation. Fees will be paid according to the number of stations traveled on the rail system, and Kayseri’s smart urbanism journey will accelerate with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
The “Pay As You Go” Project, implemented under the leadership of Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, will be a major transformation in the transportation system in the city. With this project, carried out by Kayseri Ulaşım A.Ş., rail system users will pay according to the number of stations they travel to.
“It Will Contribute to the Transportation Culture in the City”
Emphasizing that Kayseri will take another important step in the field of smart urbanism with this project, Mayor Büyükkılıç said, “We aim to make rail transportation more preferred with the pay-as-you-go system. We anticipate that the new model will meet the expectations of our citizens who use public transportation in Kayseri and will initiate a transformation that will contribute to the transportation culture in the city.”
Büyükkılıç noted that they aim to present this work, which will take Kayseri one step further in terms of smart urbanism, to the discretion and use of public transportation users as soon as possible.
Infrastructure Preparations Continue at Full Speed
Making a statement about the project, Kayseri Ulaşım A.Ş. Smart Transportation Systems Manager Muhammed Biçimveren stated that work is ongoing for the system to be fully operational in 2025. Biçimveren said that the infrastructure work for 75 stations in Kayseri's existing 45-station rail system network has been completed and that infrastructure preparations for the remaining 30 stations are ongoing.
Biçimveren stated that the new pricing model will be integrated with smart cards and a distance-based pricing system, and that testing and integration work for the software to be used in the fee refund devices is also continuing simultaneously.
Stating that the people of Kayseri will benefit from the benefits of this innovative system as soon as possible, Smart Transportation Systems Manager Muhammed Biçimveren said, “Our Kayseri Transportation Inc. teams are working intensively to complete this project as soon as possible and make it available to the people of Kayseri.”
