The press launch of Jungo Publishing's special project 'Two Languages One Dream', which brings together creativity and storytelling in education and is specially prepared for children aged 6-10, and includes stories that are entertaining as well as aiming to educate on values and raise awareness in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, took place last night at the DasDas Show Center in Ataşehir, Istanbul. The launch, which was contributed by many successful names in their fields from the world of cinema to the music community, provided an unforgettable evening for the participants.
BURAK AKYÜZ: WE BROKE FOREIGN DEPENDENCE
The opening speech of the launch was made by Burak Akyüz, the founder of MAcenta – Jungo Publishing. Starting his speech by celebrating the 18th anniversary of MAcenta Publishing, to which Jungo Publishing is affiliated, Burak Akyüz noted that they have been operating in the field of foreign languages in Turkey for 18 years and that they have provided services in Turkey as part of or as representatives of many international companies. Reminding that they have been providing special contributions to the education process in Turkey by producing their own content for the last eight years, Burak Akyüz said, “There was a serious external dependency in foreign language education in Turkey, we broke this. Now, get ready to discover the power of imagination in education and touch the future of children.”
CELEBRITIES PARADE AT THE LAUNCH
Jungo Publishing’s new project “Two Languages, One Dream” was introduced with a large-scale organization. The first panel of the launch, “Transforming Education with Sustainable Development Goals”, was moderated by Esra Arslan. Ayşen Güven, Çelebi Kalkan, Faik Uyanık, Itır Erhart and Mert Fırat discussed the effects of sustainability and creative approaches in education on children’s development. The speakers emphasized the importance of new generation projects for the future of education and discussed the necessity of creating awareness in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The moderator of the panel, Needs Map Board Member Esra Arslan, asked the participants about the ideal future they dream of in education. The first to speak was Faik Uyanık, Head of Communications Department in Turkey for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), who responded to the question by saying, “When writing draft resolutions and strategy documents, we try to write without forgetting any keywords. That’s what I tried to do. “An inclusive, creative and technology-supported education system where every child can think critically for a sustainable world, say ‘the emperor has no clothes’, innovate, and have equal opportunities. This is where our dream and work should reach…” he replied.
'TECHNOLOGY TO REDUCE INEQUALITIES…'
Istanbul Bilgi University Faculty of Communication Dean Itır Erhart described the ideal future she envisions in education with the words, “I envision a future where everyone can fully and equally benefit from education, and where technologies are mobilized to reduce inequalities.” British Council Turkey Education Director Ayşen Güven said, “Since I have been working with policy makers, especially in the national context, for the last 10 years, I would like education policies to be fed from the field, not from offices. Speaking of the field, every school, every province, every region has a different ecosystem, and therefore needs. Although we approach with a single solution, we see that this does not succeed,” and made the assessment, “Therefore, an education policy inspired by the field needs to be built.”
'CHILDREN NOW HAVE TO HAVE DOUBLE WINGS'
Entrepreneurial Teacher Çelebi Kalkan commented, “Sustainability in education is a fashion for those who have no interest in the subject, unnecessary for those who cannot manage it, essential for those who can manage it, a compass for those who can interpret it, and the future for societies that can put it into action. We need educational approaches that can put this into action.” Emphasizing that the work done by the creator of the program, Burak Akyüz, is very valuable, Kalkan said, “Because children have to be both global citizens and learn languages. It is necessary to have two wings, in other words, there is no equivalent to having one wing. Therefore, my wish is for an educational system where all our children from east to west can have two wings.”
'A WORLD THAT CAN BE THOUGHT AND MANAGED WITH ART...'
The actor, Needs Map founder and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Mert Fırat, who started his answer to the question by reminding us of the point reached in education and said, “Today, I find myself working on artificial intelligence for a few hours a day, a few days a week. Because I always miss something,” said, “Sustainability in education is actually a need for us as well. Leaving us aside, I dream of a world where equal opportunities are for everyone, where this equality and resources can be distributed transparently and where it can be thought of and managed with art.”
THE DETAILS OF STORY PRODUCTION WERE DISCUSSED
Following this panel, in the second panel titled “From Dream to Book: How I Wrote My First Children's Story?” moderated by Itır Erhart, who is also one of the project writers, actors Alper Kul, Ayfer Dinçer Küçük, Begüm Kütük, Derya Beşerler, cartoonist Erdil Yaşaroğlu and national volleyball player İlkin Aydın explained the processes of writing stories and the intricacies of producing stories for children.
Özge Fışkın took the stage after the panels and enchanted the participants with the musical feast she gave.
