Heavy Rain and Cold Weather Warning in Istanbul

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Affairs Department AKOM announced that heavy rain and cold weather will be effective in Istanbul as of Monday, February 17, 2025.

With temperatures dropping rapidly throughout the week, precipitation is expected to turn into sleet and snow starting Wednesday. According to weekly forecasts, the snowfall, which will continue on Thursday, is expected to intensify on Friday and Saturday and will be effective throughout the city. It was reported that citizens should be careful against icing, frost and possible disruptions in transportation.

SIBERIAN COLD IS COMING BACK

According to experts' estimates, Istanbul and its surroundings will be affected by the cold air wave coming from Siberia throughout the week. It is stated that the air temperatures will be between 0 - 3 ° C, and starting from Wednesday, there will be sleet.

DAM FULL RATE AND SEA WATER TEMPERATURE

The fullness rate of dams across the city reached 61,42%, reaching a water level of 533 million m³. The sea water temperature was measured as 9°C.

TRANSPORTATION DISRUPTIONS MAY EXPERIENCE

AKOM called on drivers to be careful against the risk of frost and ice, especially at night and in the morning. It was reported that with the snowfall throughout the city, roads may be closed, transportation disruptions may occur and the risk of hidden ice increases.

Authorities stated that air temperatures will remain 25-4°C below seasonal norms until February 8 and are expected to return to normal between February 26 and March 5. Citizens are advised to follow current weather forecasts and avoid driving unless necessary.
