
The 21st of the FIRST LEGO League Challenge tournaments, one of the world's largest children and youth organizations, organized in Turkey under the name of "Science Heroes Meet", has begun. This year, with the theme of SUBMERGED-Ocean Explorers, the first stage of the tournaments, which will be attended by 80 teams from 500 different cities and approximately 5 thousand children and young people, was completed in İzmir local tournaments at Fuar İzmir. 10 teams earned the right to participate in the national tournament in the two-day tournament.
The 21st season of the Science Heroes Meet / FIRST LEGO League Challenge tournaments, one of the world's largest youth and children's organizations, has begun. Following 17 local tournaments to be held in different cities, the season will conclude with the National Tournament hosted by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and İZFAŞ at Fuar İzmir on March 15-16. The first stage of the tournaments, the Izmir local tournaments, have now been completed. 21 teams from different schools in İzmir and surrounding provinces participated in the 1st Season 68st İzmir Middle School and High School Local Tournament organized by the Science Heroes Association at Fuar İzmir with the support of İZFAŞ and hosted by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.
This year's theme is ocean explorers
The First Lego League Challenge tournaments, which are attended by more than 100 thousand children and young people from more than 300 countries every year, have been organized by the Science Heroes Association under the name Science Heroes Meet since the 2004-2005 season. The tournaments, which have been attended by nearly 2004 thousand children from 80 cities in Turkey since 43, are being held this year under the theme SUBMERGED-Ocean Explorers. In the tournaments, which will continue until March 2025, this year, teams will examine in depth the problems faced by people exploring the oceans, develop innovative solutions for these problems, and try to complete tasks made from LEGO models with the robots they have built and coded in order to reinforce these concepts.
800 students exhibited their work
In the middle school tournaments organized at Fuar Izmir, nearly 6 students and teachers from 7 different cities and in the high school local tournaments from 800 different cities came together in Izmir and exhibited their work. With the support of more than 100 volunteers every day, 10 teams from the tournaments were completed and qualified to participate in the National Tournament. Before the national tournament, 1 more tournaments will be held on March 2-2 hosted by Fuar Izmir.
Young inventors competed
A total of 13 awards were given in the Izmir Middle School Local Tournaments. 4 teams qualified to participate in the National Tournament to be held at Fuar Izmir on March 15-16. In the tournament where NEXURA team from Izmir TAKEV Private Middle School became the champion, Entreprise Jr and KT Robotics from Balikesir Private Bahçeşehir Bandırma Middle School, Gentlemen of Oceans from Edremit Branch, Future Designer from Private Salihli Bahçeşehir College Middle School also qualified to advance to the next round.
A total of 17 awards were given in the Izmir High School Local tournaments, and 6 teams qualified to participate in the National Tournament. In the tournament where the MAXIMISE HIGH SCHOOL team from Muğla Turgutreis Middle School Campus Anatolian High School became the champion, SMART G. from Şehit Soner Kutlu Science and Art Center from Denizli, KRUSTY KRUBS from Özel Çakabey High School from İzmir, ROTATECH from Özel Rota Science High School, ROBOKOD YEAL from Yunus Emre Anatolian High School and GFROCE from Özel Gelişim College High School also qualified to advance to the next round.
