Denizli Metropolitan Municipality disposed of a total of 2024 thousand 298 tons of waste, including domestic and medical waste, without harming nature and the environment in 691. The monthly energy needs of 27 thousand households were met from the electricity produced from the resulting methane gas.
Denizli Metropolitan Municipality continues its works for a more livable city. Within this scope, Denizli Metropolitan Municipality disposed of the waste it collected at the Kumkısık Solid Waste Disposal Facility and Tavas Solid Waste Disposal Facility without harming nature and the environment. 264 thousand 798 tons of domestic waste collected from Pamukkale, Merkezefendi, Sarayköy, Buldan, Güney, Honaz, Çardak and Bozkurt districts and non-hazardous domestic waste originating from various industrial establishments were stored at the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Kumkısık Solid Waste Disposal Facility. 31 thousand 881 tons of solid waste was disposed of at the Tavas Solid Waste Disposal Facility, where domestic solid waste from Tavas, Kale, Beyağaç, Acıpayam, Serinhisar and Çameli districts was collected. It was stated that the leachate from the disposed garbage was purified and rendered harmless to the environment and human health, and that greenhouse gas emissions from domestic waste were also reduced.
2 tons of viruses and harmful organisms were purified from the facility
In addition to solid waste, Denizli Metropolitan Municipality also disposed of harmful waste at the Medical Waste Sterilization Facility. Last year, 2 tons of medical waste collected from health facilities, which contained diseases, viruses and harmful organisms, was rendered harmless to human health. Medical waste collected at the Medical Waste Sterilization Facility was sterilized with high-pressure steam at 12 degrees Celsius, purified from all microbes that carry diseases and viruses, and became household garbage and was disposed of at the regular storage area at the Kumkısık Solid Waste Disposal Facility. Last year, a total of 146 tons of waste, including household and medical waste, was disposed of.
Waste turns into energy
On the other hand, it was stated that the electricity needs of an average of 27 thousand households per month are met without harming the environment or human health from the methane gas produced in the Kumkısık Solid Waste Disposal Facility and the Tavas Solid Waste Disposal Facility.
