
The Japanese technical delegation, which came to the city within the scope of the project carried out by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), conducted field studies on earthquake risk management in transportation infrastructures such as rail systems, metro lines, bridges and viaducts on bus routes.
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, which established the 'ground survey research unit' and implemented the Bursa Province Seismic Ground Hazard Assessment Projects after the 1999 Marmara earthquake in Bursa, which is located in the first-degree earthquake zone, is also continuing its 'Earthquake Risk Reduction and Prevention Planning Project' with JICA at full speed. The Japanese technical delegation, which came to Bursa within the scope of earthquake risk reduction, prevention and planning studies, conducted field examinations on earthquake risk management in transportation infrastructures such as rail systems, metro lines, bridges and viaducts on bus routes. During the technical visit, critical points on BursaRay, tram lines and bus routes were evaluated. During the meeting of the Japanese delegation with the Metropolitan Municipality officials, the current situation and reinforcement works were also discussed, and preventive and remedial strategies were emphasized for the transportation network to provide uninterrupted service in possible disaster situations.
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey said that they need to make all preparations for the pre-disaster, disaster and post-disaster periods on these days when they are experiencing the anniversary of the February 6 earthquakes. Reminding that a major earthquake is expected in Bursa and Marmara, Mayor Bozbey said, “We aim to increase the quality of life in the city and create a smart, resilient and sustainable city. In this sense, we value local, national and international collaborations. We are also conducting an exemplary study with JICA. We find the contribution of all public institutions and organizations to the resilience of Bursa very valuable.”
