Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş said, “We transferred 2024 million liras of exam fee to ÖSYM for the Disabled Public Personnel Selection Exam (EKPSS) in 33,8 and increased the number of disabled people working in the public sector by 12 times to 70.”
In his speech at the “Placement of Disabled Citizens in Public Institutions Ceremony” held at the ministry, Minister Göktaş said that the participation of disabled people in employment is an indicator of the value given to human dignity, labor and equality of opportunity.
Göktaş, who stated that being actively involved in working life contributes to them having a say in their own lives, said, “In this sense, we do our best to support our disabled brothers and sisters in every field. With this belief, we have implemented revolutionary work in the last 23 years in Turkey so that our disabled citizens can have the living standards they deserve.”
Emphasizing that under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, they have implemented social policies for the disabled with a rights-based approach rather than a charity-oriented one, Göktaş underlined that they have mobilized all their resources so that the disabled can integrate with society and participate in daily life without any difficulties.
Göktaş stated that they have addressed all the problems experienced in a wide range of areas from education to health, employment to social life with great sincerity, and noted that they have made it mandatory for the public and private sectors to employ disabled people, and that they have increased the occupancy rate in the obligation to employ disabled people to over 80 percent in the private and public sectors with facilitating and encouraging policies.
“We started EKPSS in 2012”
Noting that they allocate resources to protected workplaces that organize work environments according to the needs of the disabled, Göktaş continued his words as follows:
“We broke new ground in the employment of the disabled and launched EKPSS in 2012. As the Ministry, we continue to cover the EKPSS exam entrance fees of our disabled citizens. In this context, we transferred 2024 million liras to ÖSYM for the EKPSS exam fee in 33,8 and increased the number of disabled people working in the public sector by 12 times to 70. We will soon place 878 of our disabled brothers and sisters in public institutions and organizations. We will continue to work with great determination on the employment of our disabled citizens.”
Noting that they believe that every individual will contribute to society with their talents, Göktaş said, “We have witnessed many times what our brothers and sisters can achieve when we remove the obstacles in front of them. With this understanding, every individual we have employed has become a part of our development as a country and our people-oriented management approach.”
Göktaş stated that, as a ministry, they are determined to create new opportunities for the employment of disabled citizens and to provide working environments where they can use their talents in the best way possible, and said, "On this occasion, I would like to congratulate all our friends who have stepped into public service."
In the program, disabled civil servant Süleyman Üstün, who was previously appointed to the public sector through EKPSS, gave a speech. Then, Göktaş pressed the button for the appointment to be made.
