According to the second half results of the Export Contribution Index 2024 prepared by the Turkish Ceramics Federation; the construction ceramics sector closed the year by reaching the highest export contribution rate with 12,89 points.
Global tight monetary policies that continued in the second half of 2024 had a negative impact on world trade and export markets. Savings policies implemented in Turkey, high interest rates and the real appreciation of the Turkish lira made access to financing difficult. Under these conditions, Turkey's export contribution index, which closed the second quarter of 2024 with a negative of 0,85 points, rose to a positive of 0,90 points in the third quarter, but fell to 0,87 points at the end of the fourth quarter.
The net contribution of the construction ceramics sector reached 860 million dollars
In 2024, the construction ceramics sector achieved the highest export contribution rate among 20 industrial branches with 12,89 points. While the decline in imports was effective in this success of the sector, net export contribution increased from 2023 million dollars in 842 to 2024 million dollars in 860. The furniture sector with 5,37 points and the clothing sector with 3,92 points were the other sectors with high contribution rates.
Variable table in export performance
In 2024, Turkey's total exports will increase by 2,4 percent to reach 262 billion dollars, while construction ceramics exports will decrease by 0,7 percent to 939 million dollars. Ceramic tile exports will increase by 8,0 percent in value to 685 million dollars and by 33,7 percent in quantity to 1.787.232 tons. Ceramic sanitary ware exports will decrease by 18,6 percent in value to 254 million dollars and by 16,7 percent in quantity to 126.940 tons.
Decrease in unit prices
Unit prices in the ceramics sector also decreased in 2024. The export unit price of ceramic sanitary ware decreased to an average of 2,00 dollars/kg, while the export unit price of ceramic coating materials decreased to 38 cents/kg.
Zeki İlter Yurtbay, President of the Turkish Ceramics Federation, made the following assessment regarding the index: “Despite all the difficulties experienced in global markets in 2024, our sector achieved a significant success by achieving the highest export contribution rate among 20 industrial branches. The increase in our net export contribution to 860 million dollars clearly demonstrates the strength of our sector in international competition and its sustainable growth potential. We will resolutely continue our value-added production and export-oriented growth strategy in the coming period.”
