Azerbaijan Sends First Sulfur-Loaded Train to Europe

Azerbaijan’s Zira Port took an important logistical step by sending its first sulfur train to Europe. This shipment was recorded as the beginning of trade from Zira Port to Europe and was an important milestone in revitalizing regional logistics.

Rebuilt Rail Route: Increased Efficiency

The development of the Dubendi–Zira–Gurgen–Port Zira railway line has improved regional trade by increasing transport efficiency. A 9-kilometer reconstruction project, including a new 21-kilometer section, has been completed. This improvement allows faster and more efficient freight transport, accelerating trade between key regions.

Growing Carrying Capacity and Future Shipments

Zira Port sent a train carrying 13.000 tons of sulphur as part of its expansion plans. It is anticipated that future monthly shipments could reach up to 60.000 tons. This will significantly increase the carrying capacity and strengthen the port’s role in the global logistics market. In addition, the expansion of the infrastructure will allow the handling of additional cargo types such as urea.

Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor and Global Connections

The new railway route strengthens Azerbaijan’s strategic role in the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor. This network will facilitate trade between Europe and Central Asia and strengthen regional connectivity.

Rising Performance of Azerbaijan Railways

Azerbaijani railways will transport 2024 million tons of cargo in 7,3, including 18,5 million tons in transit. This figure is a 2023% increase compared to 5,7 and highlights the successful modernization of infrastructure. The developing railway infrastructure will increase transport accessibility, accelerate trade flows and reduce delays.

These developments at Azerbaijan’s Zira Port continue to make a significant impact on both local and global logistics markets, strengthening the country’s strategic position in the global supply chain.
