In its monthly communication bulletin dated February 2025, ASELSAN announced that it has successfully completed the nationalization of the domestic and national VHF (Very High Frequency) Naval Antenna together with Balıkesir-based Kuvayi Technologies. This important development means that Turkey has taken an important step in maritime communication in military and civilian areas.
Importance of VHF Marine Antenna
VHF Marine Antenna was developed to provide secure communication to Turkish and foreign flagged vessels within the framework of national and international maritime rules. These antennas play a critical role in distress, safety, routine and navigation safety communications that ensure the safety of life and property at sea. At the same time, they play an active role in systems that increase the safety of maritime traffic when used together with VHF IMM (International Maritime Mobile Communication) radio and AIS (Automatic Identification System) receiver units.
Maritime Communication and Security
VHF marine antennas enable military and civilian vessels to communicate with each other, shore stations, port authorities and coast guard units. They are also critical for emergency communications, weather information and data exchange over other VHF radio frequencies. The effectiveness of these systems makes security and communication in the maritime field more efficient and uninterrupted.
In particular, the AIS system contributes to increasing maritime traffic safety by sharing the location, speed and identity information of ships with other ships and land stations via VHF frequencies.
Contributions of ASELSAN and Kuvayi Technologies
This nationalization study, carried out in cooperation with ASELSAN and Kuvayi Technologies, has been an important step in strengthening the security of Turkey's maritime communications infrastructure. While ASELSAN has enabled Turkey to make great progress in the defense industry with such technologies, Kuvayi Technologies has contributed to the project as a company with a production capacity in accordance with military and civilian standards.
ASELSAN's Radar Technologies Investments
ASELSAN continues its investments in radar technologies. Having made significant progress in AESA-based radar technologies, ASELSAN has become one of the leading radar design and production centers worldwide. ASELSAN has recently commissioned the Radar Integration Center worth 50 million dollars for radar production and has increased capacity and efficiency with this investment.
These developments are important steps that will enable Turkey's defense industry to become more competitive internationally and to increase domestic production capacities. ASELSAN's investments in radar and communication systems increase Turkey's technological and production power not only in the military field but also in the civilian field.
